Red Hibiscus floating in the Caribbean

The Caribbean Sea is home to 9% of the world’s coral reefs and covers over 50,000 square kilometers, most of which are located around the 7,000 Caribbean Islands and over 28 distinct countries. Home to the world’s second-largest barrier reef, the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef and with a tropical average temperature of 27 ̊ C (81 ̊ F) which varies no more than 3 ̊C.
The coral reef is being threatened due to the increased temperature of the sea. These reefs support a variety of habitats critical to the economic livelihood of the Caribbean nations.
