"Adopt don't Shop" is a campaign slogan that a growing number of animal rights proponents are using to promote adopting pets from shelters, rather than buying them from pet stores.
Growing up, our family always had a dog. Being a lover of animals, I had other pets as well, including a boa constrictor and believe it or not, a squirrel monkey. Although, we did not keep "Jojo" very long, for obvious reasons.
I lost my precious Cava-poo, Lucie in March and swore I would not get another dog. I wanted to enjoy my time and not be responsible for another living creature.
In April I put in an application with NYC Second Chance Rescue to foster a dog. In less than 2 weeks, they called and asked if I could foster a dog. They showed me a photograph of 2 dogs, and one was the Miniature Pinscher. I said I'd like to foster the MinPin. I always wanted either an Italian Greyhound or a Dachshund. They told me that she was already taken and I had to take the other one. I agreed. The next day there was a mix-up and they dropped off the MinPin.
Taking that as a good omen, I took her in and eventually adopted her. The rescue organization calls that a "foster fail". LOL She needs a great deal of work since her prior owner, in my opinion, did not take her out of the house or teach her much.
We named her Tuuli, which is wind in Finnish. She is swift, quiet and moves like the wind.
Welcome home Tuuli.
